Description

PLEASE NOTE: This app requires a Wonder Workshop robot - Dash or Dot - and a Bluetooth Smart/4/LE-enabled device to play. To find out more, please visit our website: https://www.makewonder.com or an Apple Store (US, Canada). This app is FREE to play.

Blockly is a visual drag-and-drop programming tool developed by Google that allows children to snap together commands like puzzle pieces. Take on coding challenges and invent your own creations by using Blockly to control Dash & Dot!

Learn concepts like sequencing, events, loops, algorithms, operations, and variables through self-directed play and guided challenges. Basic puzzles teach the concepts of coding through playful project ideas, allowing kids to learn and explore all on their own. Bonus puzzles are added each week for endless entertainment and learning.

Kids can confidently embark on their own coding adventures with their newfound knowledge, a dash of creativity, and robot buddies - Dash & Dot. For ages 8 and up.

As seen on the New York Times, USA TODAY, WIRED, Engadget, BBC, and more.

“Thoroughly absorbing.” - New York Times

“Both kids begged me to take out the robots and start playing with them again.” - Business Insider

“Wonder Workshop's notion that kids need to learn twenty-first century skills (and can have fun doing it) flips the industry paradigm on its head, putting kids first.” - James Oppenheim

"They are designed to encourage kids to explore and be curious while also learning problem solving." - VentureBeat

HOW TO PLAY
- Connect Dash and/or Dot to the Blockly app using Bluetooth Smart/4
- Start with a sample project or start your own projects from scratch
- Navigate Dash through a maze or around your home, using object detection to avoid walls
- Dash & Dot know when they are being picked up and moved. Program them to sound the alarm when there is a disturbance!
- Program Dash & Dot to do synchronized dances and moves with lights, motion, and sounds

Version 2.6.0

Things are about to get a lot more “animated” in the Blockly world! We’ve added brand new animations you can use to make Dash and Dot come to life! Make Dash dance when you clap your hands, give a kiss when you put your hand in front, and let out a gigantic burp when you feed it too many volts. Dot also now comes with some awesome pre-made light shows!

Connecting to your robot is now much faster with one-touch connect, and your iPad will remember the robot it was connected to even after not playing for a while. Though you should know that robots have feelings too and get sad when they aren’t playing with you. Disconnecting is just as easy as connecting, for those of you who don’t use the same device each time.

Lastly, to make the app better for you, we are always making various performance, usability, and reliability improvements under the hood!

Version 2.5.0

This update to Blockly has functions and new puzzles for Dot!

What’s a function? Functions are a way of making something that you can use again later. Have a cool dance that you made with a bunch of different blocks? You can combine your code into one block that you name. Say you want to call it “Fancy pants dance”. Next time you want to use the dance, you can just put in the block called “Fancy pants dance”!

Try coding Dot with Blockly! We added a bunch of puzzles that let you have fun inventing and playing with Dot! See how you can turn Dot into a kitten, a disco ball, or even an astronaut.

With all the coding fun, our list of programs was getting long. You can now delete the projects you don’t need anymore. And of course we also fixed some bugs.

Happy Holidays! We hope you have some quality coding-family-fun time!

Version 2.1.2

The moment you’ve been waiting for is here. Blockly is now available on iPhones! You can now code while waiting in line at the grocery store, during long car rides, and most importantly… if you don’t have a tablet device.

This update also gets you all set for target practice. The Launcher for Dash ships this month, and we’ve given you the ability to load and launch in Blockly! You can program Dash to sneak up on a target, load a ball, and launch at the power level you choose. Do some tests and see how far different power levels take you!

Last but not least, there were some bugs that we fixed. So be sure to update your app to get the good stuff.

Version 2.0.4

Bugs! We fixed them.

This update fixes a bug that was preventing you from getting access to new puzzles. You might have noticed that there are new puzzles that appear every few days but that they were locked. We’ve unleashed all the fun, and starting from now you will be able to automatically download new puzzles if you are connected to the internet.

We’ve been blown away by your enthusiasm about the last update. So many of you seem to be having fun playing and coding with Dash! P.S. - time is running out to win a free t-shirt for defeating the Terrible Troll of Trepidation in Blockly puzzles. Get yours by doing the puzzles and sending in your certificate today!

Happy coding!

Version 2.0.0

It’s a big day for robots -- this is a huge update packed with completely new ways to play with Dash & Dot. It’s Christmas in July! There’s something for everyone, from young padawans who are looking to get started with Blockly to robot experts looking for a challenge.

Puzzles. New puzzles teach the concepts of coding through playful project ideas, letting kids have fun and explore all on their own. Get started with coding as you save Dash from the Land of Giants, invent your own sleeping prankster, and help Dash prepare for a dance contest. Bonus puzzles will be added each week, so be sure to check back often for more fun!

Variables. Many of you have been asking for a challenge! We’ve added variables, operations, conditionals, and are surfacing more sensors in Dash for you to play with. Try out our puzzles that teach you how to use variables, and make projects of your own. Some ideas to get your creative juices flowing: can you make Dot into a Magic 8 Ball, create a memory game with Dash’s sensors, or make Dot into your own robotic version of Bop It?

Start your own coding camp at home this summer with this update to Blockly! Check out the Dash & Dot Show on YouTube for more ideas of how to play and code with your robot buddies.

Version 1.4.1

Bug fixes

May 18
2015
Version 1.4

Dash here. This update makes Blockly easy to understand for the little learners out there and gives you better control of our robot features at the same time! Use the new controls to turn my head, change my speed and traveling distance, and trigger events like when you toss Dot up in the air (Dot loves it when you do that)!

You can now start and stop your programs by tapping on the start button on the bottom left corner of the iPad. New events add more… well… magic to play time. We know when you pick us up, I know when I’m stuck somewhere, and I can tell if there’s something in my left or right front sensor.

And of course everyone’s favorite new feature is now available in Blockly! Record your own sounds, and Dot and I will say them for you when we run our programs!

Here are some ideas to try:
- Program me to make funny sounds when someone picks me up!
- Make me and Dot do a dance together and then say a special message at the end
- And here’s a challenge: build a maze and then make me solve it all by myself using the “object on left” event. Hint: make the walls taller than my distance sensors (the pill-shaped black markings on my front).

Thanks for providing the Wonder Workshop team with your feedback in making me a better robot! I really do hope you give the new and improved Blockly a try!

Happy building!
Dash (Dot says hi)
