Hearthstone Update – April 4 – Rise of Shadows

The Rise of Shadows is nearly upon us! In this Hearthstone update we’re sharpening swords, feeding familiars, and stockpiling staves in preparation for the looming League of E.V.I.L. and the launch of Rise of Shadows on April 9.
Rise of Shadows
Under the leadership of Arch-Villain Rafaam, villains from across Hearthstone’s history have heeded the call and banded together under the decidedly unsubtle but exceptionally fitting moniker - the League of EV.I.L.!
•New Minions: Lackeys – Generated by EVIL cards that add Lackeys to your hand, Lackeys are 1/1 minions that, while lacking in terms of stats, have powerful Battlecry effects.
•New Spells: Schemes – Schemes are powerful spells that become even more powerful the longer they stay in your hand.
•New Keyword: Twinspell - Twinspells are spells that, once cast, create a copy of themselves in your hand to be used whenever you like.
Archmage Vargoth – Try Archmage Vargoth early, for free! This Neutral Legendary spinner of spells and defender of Dalaran will be automatically added to your collection and can be played in Standard & Wild matches before Rise of Shadows officially launches on April 9.
Shadow Bundle - Embrace the shadows and celebrate the launch of Hearthstone’s new expansion with this limited-time bundle.
•Get 9 Rise of Shadows card packs and an Arena ticket at a massively discounted price with the Shadow Bundle, available from April 9 - April 16, 10:00 a.m. PDT
Events – The tavern is lively this time of year. Pull up a chair and join in the fun!
Ignoblegarden - Join us April 17 for this explosive new Tavern Brawl and earn some awesome rewards!
HCT World Championships –Login from April 26 – 28 for daily rewards and play decks used by previous champions in the HCT Tavern Brawl.
Henchmania - Update your resume and press your favorite slacks, Henchmania will take over the Tavern Brawl on May 8.
Arena Updates - With Rise of Shadows, the Arena will start a regular rotation of available cards from both new and older expansions. Here’s which sets you’ll have access to when choosing cards in the Arena, starting April 9:
•Basic
•Classic
•Naxxramas
•Whispers of the Old Gods
•Goblins vs. Gnomes
•The Witchwood
•Rise of Shadows
Year of the Dragon – Once the Year of the Dragon begins, you will no longer be able to purchase packs from Year of the Mammoth sets. This includes - the Journey to Un’Goro, Knights of the Frozen Throne, and Kobolds & Catacombs. Any cards from these expansions will no longer be playable in Standard game modes.
Hall of Fame – The following cards are being moved to the Hall of Fame:
•Doomguard
•Naturalize
•Divine Favor
•Baku the Mooneater
•Genn Greymane
•Gloom Stag
•Black Cat
•Glitter Moth
•Murkspark Eel
Up to the maximum number of cards you could put in a deck, we will give you the full dust value of any cards you have that are being added to the Hall of Fame set. The dust will be automatically awarded upon log-in once the Year of the Dragon begins.
Complete My Deck, Part 2 - Hearthstone’s better at helping you build decks than ever before.
•Now use the smart deck builder to complete decks from the deck selection screen with a single click
•Easily convert Wild decks to Standard with a single click using the intelligent card replacement algorithm
•NOTE: When a new expansion releases the Smart Deck Builder may not work as intended for a couple of days while it gathers data from games played.
Added the following card backs:
•Awesome Blossom – Earned by completing 5 matches during the May 2019 Season.
•Pristine Scenes – Earned by logging into Hearthstone on an iOS device
•Legion Schemes – Earned by logging into Hearthstone on an Android device

Complete My Deck – Hearthstone’s better at helping you build decks than ever before.
* Helps you build established, proven decks using your collection.
* If you’re short of an established deck, the helper will help you choose strong, stand-alone cards from what you have available.

Trigger Rules Update - We're updating the rules regarding how Poisonous, Lifesteal, and Overkill keywords work in specific cases, to make cards behave in a more intuitive way.

Version 8.4.20022

In this Hearthstone Update we’re making a balance change to The Caverns Below and opening pre-purchase for Knights of the Frozen Throne, Hearthstone’s next expansion. We’re also changing the type of some minions, adding more card backs, and fixing several bugs.

Read on for details!

*Pre-purchase for Knights of the Frozen Throne, Hearthstone’s latest expansion, is now available! You can pre-purchase 50 card packs and get the Frostmourne card back for $49.99 USD.
*Balance Update
**The Caverns Below now reads: Quest: Play five minions with the same name. Reward: Crystal Core.
**The Caverns Below is uniquely powerful versus several slower, control-oriented decks and is played often enough to push those decks out of play. While deck diversity in Ranked Play is good, a change to The Caverns Below was still warranted to help keep that trend going into the future.
**The Caverns Below can now be disenchanted for full Arcane Dust value until July 24 PDT.
*Arena
**Note: Neutral cards form the basis for draft appearance rates.
**On average, Arena runs consist of 60% Common, 28% Rare, 10% Epic, and about 2% Legendary cards.
**Class minions are +100% more common than neutral cards.
**Class Spells and Weapons are +175% more common than neutral cards.
**Journey to Un'Goro cards receive an additional +50% increase in their appearance rate.
**The following cards are unavailable in arena
***Jungle Giants, The Marsh Queen, Open the Waygate, The Last Kaleidosaur, Awaken the Makers, The Caverns Below, Unite the Murlocs, Lakkari Sacrifice, Fire Plume’s Heart, Klaxxi Amber Weaver, Dark Arakkoa, Cult Sorcerer, Hooded Acolyte, Twilight Darkmender, Blade of C’Thun, Usher of Souls, Ancient Shieldbearer, Twilight Geomancer, Disciple of C’Thun, Twilight Elder, C’Thun’s Chosen, Crazed Worshipper, Skeram Cultist, Twin Emperor Vek’lor, Doomcaller, C’Thun, Dust Devil, Totemic Might, Ancestral Healing, Windspeaker, Sacrificial Pact, Sense Demons, Void Crusher, Succubus, Savagery, Soul of the Forest, Mark of Nature, Warsong Commander, Rampage, Starving Buzzard, Timber Wolf, Snipe, Mind Blast, Lightwell, Purify and Inner Fire.
**Flamestrike, Abyssal Enforcer, and Vicious Fledgling will appear in drafts 50% less often.
**Popular cards had small drop rate changes to address class balance concerns. (Note - These changes range from 1-5%. They are small enough that they are unlikely to be noticed during an individual draft, but should have enough cumulative impact to help improve class balance.)
**We’re working to improve the Arena experience, and your feedback is always appreciated!
*The following minions are now Elementals:
**Jade Spirit, Djinni of Zephyrs, Flame of Azzinoth, Mana Geode, and Hallazeal, the Ascended.

GENERAL
* Maraad Card Back: Acquired by reaching Rank 20 or higher in Ranked Play mode during the month of January.
* Card packs in the in-game Shop no longer default to Classic card packs. Players must now manually choose which card packs they would like to buy before making a purchase the first time the Shop is used or with each release of new card sets in the Shop. Once a card pack is purchased, the Shop will default to the last purchased card pack until the next time a new card set is released in the Shop.
* Screens should no longer automatically lock when playing a game or using Spectator Mode.

CARD CHANGES
* Undertaker now reads: Whenever you summon a minion with Deathrattle, gain +1 Attack. Undertaker was frustrating to play against. It often gained both attack and health stats significantly above those of other inexpensive minions very early in the game. With this change, we expect Undertaker will still be better than other 1-mana minions when played in a deck with a Deathrattle theme, but more likely to die from combat with other minions.

BUG FIXES
* Secrets no longer have a delay between their trigger and animation. Poor Noble Sacrifice – it just wants to get down!
* Addressed an issue that sometimes resulted in player names showing up as Unknown in-game. You’re a player, not a Secret!
