Description

The official Citi Bike App is your co-pilot for biking adventures in the city. From bike locations and real-time availability, to route planning and even where to get the best latté, you’ll have all the info you need to unlock the possibilities of New York.

Pull up the app and see up-to-the-minute bike availability. Search station locations and addresses, to find the nearest bike or dock. Save your favorite stations, and know the situation right away at your usual spots.

See info about your most recent ride, and all-time riding history. Know how long you’ve had a bike out with an accurate trip timer, and see confirmation of your completed trip after you’ve docked.

Pick a destination and we’ll show you where to pick up and dock your bike. Need a route suggestion? Tap a station pin or location and the app will sniff out the best way to your destination.

Want even more places to explore with your Citi Bike? We've partnered with The New York Times’s The Scoop app, to provide listings and recommendations of restaurants, coffee shops and destinations and events for you to discover. Just be on the lookout for icons near you to see what new places just made the A-list.

You know the pros when you see ‘em. In one swift motion, the phone emerges, the bike releases from the dock and before you can even blink, they’re riding off into the sunset. It’s beautiful. But not everyone is a pro. We wanted to help the newbies unlock a bike a little faster, so we built a slick animation on the Ride Code screen highlighting exactly where to enter your code so you can unlock and get going. One small step for man, a giant leap for all of bikerkind.

You enter your password. Error. You try another one. Error. What about the password you use for almost everything else? Nah. OMFGHSKDFJSD. *Throws phone out the window.* Good news folks, we just made resetting passwords much, much easier. Now, the password reset link in the email takes you right to the app so you can reset your password with ease. And remember, make it unique with at least 30 characters, numbers, uppercase, lowercase, emojis, and hieroglyphics.

Version 12.10.0

The wind’s in your hair. Your legs are pedaling to their heart’s content. Your smile is so wide you’re probably swallowing bugs, but you don’t care. You don’t want this trip to end. You don’t even care about your allotted ride time. Cause, #yolo. So you keep going. Later, you’re spacing out watching some reality tv show, you’re like, “Hm, how much was that joyride?” So you pull up your ride history and wah-lah. Additional usage fees fees are right there. Where they should be.

Version 12.9.2

Bike Angels, it’s time to fly a little smoother. First of all, for all you who’ve been pondering signing up, now we made it even easier. Just sign up directly from the menu in your app. Secondly, we added some fun things to your ride history. Now you can see your Bike Angel points per ride, station values at the time of your ride, and any overage fees you may have gotten. Ahh, that feels gooooood doesn’t it?

As always, we’d love to hear from you, please shoot us a line at app@citibikenyc.com.

Version 12.8.1

Parents aren’t supposed to have favorites. But they do. Just like we have a station we love more than others. And sometimes we move, get a new job, or fall in love with someone that doesn’t live in our neighborhood. So our favorite stations change. That’s why we updated your favorites list, so you can sort, arrange, and order your “favorite” stations to your heart’s content. Go ahead, shout your love for that station from the top of the screen, or the top of your roof if you have access.

Nov 20
2018
Version 12.7.0

We’re a bit biased here, but we think bike share is a really dynamic way to get around. Dynamic in the “lots of change” sense; the number of bikes at each station changes constantly and your app shares up-to-the second information. But we’ve heard from Bike Angels that changing points while mid-rental is confusing, and, well, we agree. So now Bike Angels points won’t change while you’re in the middle of a trip. Score those rewards with extra peace of mind.

Nov 06

Version 12.6.1

We know you guys are perfect members. So, this update to our misdocking messaging might not apply to you. “What’s misdocking?” you ask behind your screen, excelling at everything always. It’s when *somebody* (never you) docks the bike but not quite right, so the lock doesn’t lock. Now if you do happen to misdock, you’ll get a push notification and a display message in the app. That message will stick around ‘til the bike is properly docked. (Not you cause you’re flawless from the inside out.)

Or maybe your phone is set on Canadian English but you think in miles. Well now the choice is up to you. Go to settings to choose miles or kilometers. In the next release: Furlongs.

You know when you’re out with your friends who don’t have a membership and they’re like, “Ugh, the next place is too far to walk and too short to drive!” And you’re like, “Wish we could all just take a quick bike ride!” And they’re like, “Us too!” And then you stand there for a while in wistful silence? This week’s update is electric. If you haven’t heard, pedal-assist ebikes joined the Citi Bike fleet. These buzzworthy bikes have a motor to turbo charge your ride so you can explore NYC without breaking a sweat. To find the closest bike to you, look for the lightning bolt icon in the app, ride as you normally would, and enjoy feeling like a superhero. No capes required. (Unless you’re already wearing one...which is totally cool too.)

We’ve been dripping with so much sweat these days that instead of working on another update, all we’ve been doing these past two weeks is just sitting in front of the AC while we slam ice cream cones. Jk. We did a lot. But you don’t see a ton cause it’s mostly backend stuff to prepare for upcoming features. Now back to the mint chocolate chip...Happy riding!

Many of you have asked, and we’re glad you did. We’re even (gladder? more glad?) gladder to let you know your list of past rides is just a few taps away. Yes, right in the app. Yes, right in your profile. Never forget that day you got to work in less than twenty minutes. Or that one time you rode to grab burritos three times in one day. Or that other time you rode into the sunset like a badass. Enjoy staring at your greatest achievements, and thanks for the tip.

We added something fun to the menu. It’s a double cheeseburger with a side of fries. Sorry, it’s lunchtime and we’re hungry. But for real, now you can see your last ride in your menu. We know, we know, it’s in two places but we’re paving the way to declutter your main map screen. Consider this Step 1. Now about that double cheese... Happy riding!

Hey hey we have a fun one for you today! We know that you have a personal connection to Citi Bike, and we wanted to honor that with something fun and, well, personal. So now you can add a profile pic! It can be your best headshot, your favorite dog, or that time you took a selfie while biking with a perfect sunset behind you (we don't condone selfies while biking). Is it going to help you get from point A to point B? Maybe not. Will it make it a little more fun? We think so. Happy riding!

Can you guys feel that? That shift beneath your palms as you open up the next step towards our new app? It’s incredible, isn’t it? A new menu (here’s where you ‘Oooo’) and a Google Fit integration (here’s where you ‘Ahhh’). Go to your settings to turn it on, and make sure to open your app after each ride you want to sync (which will be every ride, probs). Oh and did we mention you can click your profile to update it? Stay tuned for more tectonic shifts.

Version 10.1.0

Nuestra app ahora está disponible en español. Si el lenguaje de su aparato está en español, la app se traducirá automáticamente para usted. (Curious English speakers, feel free to pop those sentences into Google translate.) Additionally, we heard the timer continued to run for a bit after your ride was over - which is cool if you’re trying to win a Who Rode Longest Competition but not so cool if you legit want to know how long you’ve ridden. So what we’re trying to say is, we fixed it. Cheers!

You asked, we heard, and today we are happily delivering. Drum roll please...in this version you can plan a ride in the Citi Bike app! You can use the search icon in the upper right corner, or go from the station details of your beginning station. Version 9.0.0

We're passionate about improving NYC bike infrastructure, so we're partnering with NYC DOT to help the cause. This update has a new opt-in feature called Ride Insights which uses your phone's location during a ride to record the route you take. Routes are then anonymized and shared with DOT to help them understand the needs of cyclists.
After a successful run with our Bike Angels, we're rolling out this feature to everyone.
Got feedback? We want it. Drop us a line at app@citibikenyc.com

Version 7.1.0

Hey Citi Bikers, we have an update for you.
Mostly "under-the-hood" improvements we needed to do.
We added, deleted, and polished the code,
to our wonderful programmers the "thank you" is owed.
Most of these changes are just out of sight,
because planning for the future means getting the foundation right.
Please give us a shout with your comments and questions,
we relish and love your insightful suggestions.
Cheers,
