About Us

HI! We're Dale and Carrie Spoonemore, the creators of “From Seed to Spoon.” We decided in spring of 2015 that we wanted to try growing food for our family of 6. We started with a typical Oklahoma Bermuda grass lawn, and over the course of two years, we converted it into an urban backyard food farm. We spent nearly all of our free time over the course of those two years reading books, attending classes, and watching YouTube videos to learn all we could about gardening and growing food, and now our FREE mobile app combines everything we've learned into one easy to use app!

We remember how lost and overwhelmed we felt when we first started, and now we want to share what we’ve learned in hopes of helping others grow food for themselves as well! Growing your own food doesn't have to be difficult and we're here to help you grow food efficiently, economically, and sustainably!

Mar 14
2018
Version 2.3.0

Our last update added customized indoor seed starting and outside planting dates based on your location. To calculate the dates, we used the most conservative estimate for the last freeze date from your closest weather station. This update adds the ability to choose from 10 different freeze date options so you can tailor the planting dates to your liking. Many times, planting dates can be accelerated if you're able to provide your plants with some sort of protection during cold temperatures. Now you're able to make that decision for yourself in the app!

We've also added information about your first fall freeze, and will be using that data to calculate the "latest planting date" in an upcoming update soon!

Thank you to everyone that's submitted feedback via our social media pages and through the "Send Feedback" button in the About page in the app. I personally read and respond to every single email and would love to hear any ideas you have for how we can make the app better!

Jan 24
2018
Version 2.0

Our first release in December contained a lot of information about growing food, but didn’t explain everything you have to do before you actually start planting. This update adds the “How to Start” tab that walks you through getting started. We had no idea where to begin when we started growing food for our family of 6. We've tried pretty much every gardening method and tip we could find in books, videos, and online over the past 3 years. Some of them have worked great, and some of them...not so much. We've taken all that we've learned and built a list of steps for anyone that wants to start growing food.

This update also adds the ability to tap on a field label in order to view more information about it. For example, tapping on “# per square” below will take you to a page that explains what that means. We’ve also added a share button at the top of every page that makes it easy for you to share the app with your friends and family that want to grow food. You can help us out a lot by telling people about it and sharing it on your social media pages. We have a lot of really exciting new ideas we are working on and I can’t wait to start showing you more of that soon. We will also be adding more fruits and vegetables soon, especially berries. Thank you to everyone that has sent in feedback and left reviews. The reviews in the App Store are especially beneficial and help us reach more people! Please continue to give us feedback. Many of the things in this update came directly from your feedback and I really love hearing your ideas on how to improve it.

See the full list of changes in this update below and be on the lookup for upcoming updates!

- General
- This update also contains a new fly out menu that we‘ll be adding more pages to soon.
- Help us continue to build FREE software that makes growing food easier and more enjoyable by using the new Amazon links found within the app to buy things when you need them. You’ll find an Amazon button in the top right corner of every page that you can use as well. Thank you for your support!

- Growing Guides
- You can now filter the vegetable list by name and season. For example, simply type “spring” to see all vegetables that grow in the spring.
- Added the seasons for a vegetable to the vegetable list in the grid
- Tapping on a field label will now give you more information

- The new How to Start tab covers the following topics:
- Choosing the right location for your garden
- Building or buying raised beds
- Making or purchasing soil mix
- When and how to plant
- When and how to water
- Fertilization
- Harvesting
- Preparing

Version 1.1

We spent the past week going through every vegetable and pest and reading back over them. We ended up adding a lot of information as well as adding some other "finishing touches". As always, we'd love to hear your feedback on ways we can improve the application. You can submit feedback directly to us from the About tab in the app.
