About & Pics
Booksonic allows you to stream your audiobooks to your phone wherever you are, perfect on boring bus rides or during the training session.
Booksonic is a Subsonic app but it has a couple of features that are unique for it when compared to other Subsonic apps.
These are things like
Book descriptions, either you add your own to the server or the app will try and look it up online.
Author, narrator and book length are displayed on the book view.
Sleep timer, to reset the countdown just shake the phone.
Tracks are marked as heard so you know what you have listened to.
Import/Export server details and heard status
Support for almost all audio formats
More will be added as I think of them.
Other features include:
Variable playback speed (Marshmallow+)
Multiple themes to choose from
Browse by tags or by folder structure
Wear Support (Lolipop+)
And a lot more.
These are part of the app Booksonic is based on, it's called DSub. If you are intending to use the app for music then you should go for DSub instead or use both because essential music features (like shuffle) has been removed from Booksonic.
Booksonic will work with any server that is based on Subsonic but to get the most out of it your server need to use the Booksonic Server. You can get the server for free at http://booksonic.org
Both the app and the server are released under GPLv3.
Releasing new versions every 3 months, on average.
* Fixed a bug where the app would not pause on focus loss (gps talking etc) even if it was set to do so
* Now supports player.fm without needing to manually find RSS feed
* Updated DSub sources
* iTunes, Acast, Podbean and Cloudflare podcasts now work without needing to find the RSS feed first.
* Tweaked Android Auto and Wear
* Tweaked login popup
* Fixed rewind/fastforward missing
Booksonic is a Subsonic client with the main goal of being as good as possible at streaming audiobooks.
With it you can connect to your server and listen to your audiobooks from wherever you are, perfect for those boring bus rides.
Booksonic has a couple of features that is unique for it when compared to other Subsonic apps.
It is a fork of DSub meaning that there are also other great features such as
Booksonic will work with any Subsonic server but to get the most out of it your server need to be a Booksonic Server. Get it at http://booksonic.org
If you intend to use Booksonic to listen to music that will work as well but you should note that in the effort to make it more audiobook friendly some features that you will probably want for a music app have been removed. I'm thinking mostly of the ability to shuffle play. The video streaming ability has also been removed.
Please note that this is a new project. Since it is based on DSub it is a very stable client but the book specific features are still a work in progress. The code for the project is released under GPL and is availiable on GitHub:
