About & Pics

Description

Earthquake Network is the most comprehensive app on earthquakes and for most countries of the world it is the only earthquake early warning system:

- Real time detection of earthquakes using networks of smartphones
- Earthquake warning seconds in advance
- User's reports on felt earthquakes
- Automatic e-mails and SMS with your coordinates sent when an earthquake is detected in real time
- Earthquake data from national and international seismic networks starting from magnitude 0.0
- Earthquake history 2000-2017
- Chatrooms for exchanging info during earthquakes
- Earthquake notifications through voice synthesizer (only PRO version)
- Earthquake warning in case of vibrations detected by your smartphone (only PRO version)
- Earthquake visualization with augmented reality (only PRO version)
- Chat message priority during emergencies (only PRO version)

The Earthquake Network research project does not receive external funding. By purchasing the PRO version you support the project and its continuous improvement to provide a fast and reliable service. Thank you!

The Earthquake Network research project (http://www.earthquakenetwork.it) aims at developing a smartphone-based earthquake early warning system able to detect earthquakes in real time and to alert the population in advance. Smartphones are able to detect earthquakes thanks to the accelerometer on-board each device. When an earthquake is detected, users with the application installed are immediatly alerted. Since earthquake waves travel at a finite speed (from 5 to 10 km/s) it is possible to alert the population not yet reached by the damaging waves of the earthquake. For the scientific details about the project please refer to the Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America journal at http://goo.gl/lFBLYm

The Earthquake Network app allows you to receive the real time alerts of the earthquakes detected by the network, to manually report an earthquake you felt and to chat with other people during an earthquake emergency. When an earthquake is detected in real time near your location, the app can send a automatic SMS and e-mails to a list of contacts with your precise position in space. This can be useful for rescuing without the need of user interaction with the app. You can also send a request of help or you can say that you are fine with just one click. The app also shows information on the earthquakes detected by the national and international seismic networks

Note that the information on earthquakes detected by national and international seismic networks is usually published with a delay ranging from a few minutes to many hours, depending on the seismic network.

The Earthquake Network research project (http://www.earthquakenetwork.it) aims at developing a smartphone-based crowsourced early warning system able to detect earthquakes in real time and to alert the population. The app Earthquake Network allows you to receive the real time notifications of the earthquakes detected by the network, to manually report an earthquake you felt and to chat with other people during an earthquake emergency. The app also shows information on the earthquakes detected by the national and international seismic networks.

Smartphones (or tablets) are able to detect earthquakes thanks to the accelerometer on-board each smartphone. When an earthquake is detected, users with the application installed are immediatly notified. As the waves of the earthquake travel at a given speed (from 5 to 10 km/s), it is possible to notify the population not yet reached by the damaging waves of the earthquake.

Note that the project is currently at the experimental stage. Detection of earthquakes is influenced by the number of active devices in the area hit by the earthquakes, by the their spatial distribution and by the sensitivity of the accelerometers. Nonetheless, the goal of the warning system is to detect strong earthquakes that has the potential to harm or damage people and things.

Information on earthquakes detected by the national and international seismic networks are usually published with a delay ranging from few minutes to many hours, depending on the network. For more information please visit the web pages of the networks included in the application and listed below.

- View the global tectonic plates.

- View the hazard of strong quakes globally.

- Check if the earthquake generated a tsunami in the ocean.

- View the population living near the epicenter of each quake.

Download the Pro version for more features such as sound alarm in case of vibrations, e-mail notifications and the extended list and map of earthquakes.

Q: What is Earthquake Network?
A: Earthquake Network is the first Android application for detecting earthquakes through a global network of smartphones and pads.

Q: How does it work?
A: When the device detects the waves of a quake, the event is notified to a server along with your geographic position.

Q: What happens if I move my device?
A: Since the single device is not reliable, a quake is actually detected when many devices in the same area detect the quake at the same time.

Q: How do I use the app?
A: Start the application and use your device as always. The application works as a seismometer only when the device is placed over an horizontal surface, is charging and the screen is off.

Q: Does the app drain my battery?
A: No. The app is only running when the device is on charge.

Q: Does the app collect personal informations?
A: No. Only the geographic position is anonymously collected and it is deleted from the server after 10 minutes if no earthquakes are detected.

Q: Why should I keep Earthquake Network on my device?
A: Because the app can be useful to detect earthquakes only if it is installed on a large number of devices and it is free. Thanks for your cooperation!
