We wanted to determine if people were getting more serious about consuming news in general and we believe that they are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 2016 to 2017, we found&nbsp;<strong>top news apps<\/strong>&nbsp;increased their&nbsp;<strong>downloads 115%<\/strong>&nbsp;and their&nbsp;<strong>monthly active users by 61%<\/strong>. In 2016, these apps were downloaded 24M times in the U.S. and 52M times in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*It\u2019s important to know that when we say \u201cnews apps,\u201d we specifically targeted actual news sources. This means&nbsp;organizations which hire reporters and deliver journalism. We did not include certain apps you can find in the News category of the app stores such as Twitter, Reddit and Flipboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image apptopia__blogu002du002dimg\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full apptopia__blog--img\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/apptopia.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/News-app-dl-percentage-increases.webp\" alt=\"News app dl percentage increases.png\" class=\"wp-image-747\" srcset=\"https:\/\/apptopia.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/News-app-dl-percentage-increases.webp 640w, https:\/\/apptopia.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/News-app-dl-percentage-increases-300x234.webp 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:60px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We also wanted to understand the split between iOS users and Android users. It was not as big as one might have guessed.
