Compared to the other U.S.-specific commerce markets featured in the report (such as Brick and Mortar, Fast Fashion, Consumer-to-Consumer and Luxury), D2C is the strongest next to Luxury.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D2C is defined in the report as \u201cBrands that sell directly to their customers through their digital properties and sometimes physical locations.\u201d The top 15 brands include&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apptopia.com\/unified\/app\/8080993433\/about\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nike<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apptopia.com\/unified\/app\/8080732719\/about\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Adidas<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apptopia.com\/unified\/app\/8080107241\/about\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lululemon<\/a>, who have long invested in digital presence and contribute to the continual growth of this market. Think of when Asics bought Runkeeper or when&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apptopia.com\/unified\/app\/8080319719\/about\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Under Armour<\/a>&nbsp;bought MyFitnessPal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not only athletic D2C brands that have invested in getting to know their customers and appealing to their lifestyles, clothing brands in this category traditionally paid attention to create compelling ad campaigns. This seems to be why D2C maintained momentum amid Apple Tracking Transparency (ATT) changes in 2021. Old Navy wasn\u2019t too behind, with a 96% gain. As mentioned last week,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.apptopia.com\/bug-fixes-lead-to-growth\" target=\"_blank\">Old Navy spent twice the amount of time on app updates<\/a>, which helped improve customer experience. They also pleased their customers with a campaign to end a separate plus-size section, appealing to their audience\u2019s values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emotion-based marketing and innovation have been at the forefront of consumer-acquisition tactics this year and are expected to continue in 2022. Levi\u2019s did this well in 2021, coming up with a \u201cBuy Better, Wear Longer\u201d campaign in April. By conveying their planet conservation efforts, the brand was able to reiterate the high quality of its merchandise in a powerful way that clearly resonated with its mobile shoppers. The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apptopia.com\/unified\/app\/8118100658\/about\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Levi\u2019s app<\/a>&nbsp;grew 33% from 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brand collaborations and social commerce were also big contributors to growth in D2C.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apptopia.com\/unified\/app\/8080237834\/about\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gap\u2019s<\/a>&nbsp;rising vogue since the mobile app and website started offering rapper Kanye West\u2019s Yeezy collection is one of the most successful brand collaborations in terms of driving mobile growth. Both in-store and online shopping numbers have risen for the brand since September because of the collection.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In social commerce, Nike\u2019s&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/apptopia.com\/unified\/app\/8080993433\/about\" target=\"_blank\">SNKRS app<\/a>&nbsp;put the sneakerheads community at the core of the experience and&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.apptopia.com\/top-sneaker-apps-h1-2021\" target=\"_blank\">hit 50M downloads in the first half of 2021 alone<\/a>.
